Summer is here in all its scorching glory! The roads already wear a deserted look in the afternoons and the evenings see people thronging for the cooler lake side and parks in my city. Me? I have been having a wonderful time with my parents who visited us after one year!! With them and D being on a school break, I neglected you guys. Sorry but I sure hope you understand my plight.

Needless to say I spent all my energy chatting with them and cooking up delicious dishes for them to try. Thankfully, they liked everything!! Is there a greater feeling than your family loving your food? I don’t think so. So anyways I finally had some time today now that they have gone back and D is back at school. Turns out its quite tough to start writing after a long break. Its been quite some time for me so please pardon this hastily and self consciously written post today. I will get there again. I promise. More dinner stories, more laughter, much more enchantment. But for now, lets just talk about summer and this incredibly vibrant strawberry sorbet.

My garden is looking a little neglected and bereft too. Especially since the greens are turning into dappled yellow and motley brown due to the scorching sun. But, thankfully spring is in the air in the form of exquisite and intoxicating blooms! From roses to gardenias, jasmines and glorias, portulucas and euphorbias, alamanda, frangipani and bougainvillae my garden is studded with color at the moment. And I am exalting in their beauty every second of the day. Along with flowers, there is a wonderful crop of strawberries and we haven’t stopped eating strawberries since the past one month.

For now, lets get back to this gorgeous strawberry sorbet. Sorbet unlike icecream and gelato, is the dairy free version of the quintessential frozen treat. Originating from Persia in the form of sherbat, usually made of fruit puree and water alongwith a sweetener of some sort. Icecream on the other hand usually contains eggs, cream and milk and is definitely more calorie dense while being creamy and sweet.. Sorbets on the other hand are more fresh and natural! Usually served as a palate cleanser in most fine dining establishments, sorbets are refreshing and sweet without being cloying.

  1. What a gorgeous sorbet! And, am so loving your use of ginger in this boozy sorbet. I think I could enjoy this even in the middle of winter!
Also, glad you got to enjoy your parents’ company. Before mine moved here, they’d visit once a year too and so totally understand. Happy Wednesday!
