Kids, toddlers, adults – chocolate chip cookies are a staunch favorite with everyone. Usually though its made of all purpose flour, refined sugar and loads of butter.
This time round I had some wonderful organic, hand pressed Bengal gram flour from Conscious Food India lying at hand. They have a wide range of organic products that often find their way in to my pantry. In fact, I absolutely swear by their cold pressed oil range, sesame oil to be specific. Cant tell you how many times I have made dosa or a cold sesame noodle bowl with their products.
This time, I decided to make these chickpea flour chocolate chunk cookies for D and us a tad bit healthier. D and her little friends absolutely love my baked treats and I am the mom that actually sends treats for her friends at least twice a week. Yep. I am that mom. Thankfully baking these chickpea flour chocolate chunk cookies barely take any time. Its an one bowl affair that can be whipped up anytime of the day. You will be surprised by how well the natural nuttiness of the gram flour/chickpea flour lends itself to baking. There’s a natural sweetness and fragrance to it that is great to bake sweet treats just as much as savory treats.

Chickpea flour chocolate chunk cookies
Chickpea flour chocolate chunk cookies or gram flour cookies are the perfect gluten free, no butter bake option that you can whip up in 20 mins flat, including baking time!! Imagine soft centred cookies where you bite into molten dark chocolate chunks everytime you take a bite.
- 1 1/2 cups gram flour or chickpea flour besan
- 1/2 cup virgin avocado oil
- 1/2 cup soft dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chocolate chunks i used a mix od dark and milk
- 1 tsp baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1 whole egg at room temperature
Start by mixing together the dry ingredients like the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Keep it aside.
Preheat the oven to 180C or 350F.
In another bowl add the oil and sugar, cream it till its smooth. Now add the egg, vanilla essence and beat further.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mix thoroughly till its all one color and no flour streaks remain.
Add the chocolate chunks and fold it in with a spoon or by your hands as i do.
Now make small 1 inch spheres of this dough and lay it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
flatten it lightly with your fingers, then press the fork tines on it to make marks.
Bake in the preheated oven for 11 mins till the edges seem slightly crispy.
Remove and let cool for 5 mins before transferring them to a wired cooler.
Enjoy with coffee or a glass of milk!
